Various jobs, people and places in my mind I never thought I'd go to. And sometimes at a 100 miles an hour.

Since I last blogged, Max and I split and I've been laid off twice due to the economy. I've now taken a paralegal job. Maybe this one will last a while. I've jumped into a new life for myself. All I can say, it's surprising what you can do when you have to. I guess we all have different challenges - to get to what's right for us. I don't know...

Cleopatra and I have been clocking many miles. It's been hectic and I'm stressed. I'm on Craigslist every morning sending out my resume, but no responses. I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong with my computer. I'm still at the Beauty Bar, but it's very part time. I sold my car, (needed the $$) and Cleopatra has been my companion everywhere I go. It's amazing how much I save on gas. I love riding to everywhere!

I wish I was going to Sturgis to meet some of you, but not this year. Like they say, I'm so broke I can't even afford to pay attention. Right after I finished my last blog on Friday the 13th, I was called into my boss's office with a few other gals and we were told, due to the economy, our services were no longer needed. Since my position was contractual, getting unemployment is not happening like I thought it would.

The past month has been quite a struggle to get any kind of work. However I did manage to get something in a place called the Beauty Bar:

check it out: www.beautybar.com

I've always had my eye on this place, but never got the chance to go in. So, while pounding the pavement, I wandered through that decrepid (sp) door. It's a cool little place. Their mantra is "martinis and manicures". I do the manicure part with other manicurists. I also get a chance to promote my make-up biz. AND, since this place was previously a "biker bar", there's bike parking out front! I must admit things are getting pretty cool. I like this new adventure and have already bonded with some great folks.

Well, that's about it for now. My next blog will be about a long overdue ride I'm taking this weekend!

Peace friends~

Sandals Made Especially for Bikers

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 159px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lIeYh0cEER4/SZW40PRNcKI/AAAAAAAAAGc/I_hSj-KuOjA/s200/armoredflipflops2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5302347343890051234" />

Sometimes when browing the web, I'll google "motorcycle news" just to see what's going on. I discovered this article about sandals for bikers. Personally, I would never consider wearing sandals while riding.

Last year the company Bata launched their exclusive ‘Motor Sandal’ in Bangladesh. Now it's hit the States. “The sandal has been specifically designed to protect their feet while riding bikes,” said Bata’s Bangladesh marketing manager.

Motor Sandal features a fiberglass reinforced sole, gear shifter protector, heat resistant rubber, toe bumper and fluorescent rear strap.

I guess Bata didn't think of protecting your ankle, foot and our toe-zees while they were developing this. Just seems a little strange...Yikes!

A Hug for ME!

This very nice fella, Pappy, sent me a super nice comment and a personal hug on his blog. Bloomberg tempts Staten Island Chuck out of his cage with corn on the cob. There are animals — hibernating bears come to mind, or emergency room doctors after an overnight shift — who don’t appreciate being roused from their slumber. Perhaps that’s what irked Chuck the groundhog Monday morning on Staten Island, when Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg tried to lure him out of his cage.

Chuck wasn’t up for whatever it was that Mr. Bloomberg had planned for him, or for predicting how much longer winter is going to last, for that matter. And he got so annoyed at Mr. Bloomberg that he bit his glove-clad left hand.

The mayor seemed upset at Chuck, or perhaps a bit hurt by his reaction. During an unrelated announcement later in the day at City Hall, he provided few details, but he was firm on his labeling of the 3-year-old, 10-pound groundhog.

“Let me say this: For security reasons, there’s a limit to what I can say, but I think it is fair that whenever the people of Staten Island are at risk, the mayor is willing to put himself at risk, his physical well-being in harm’s way, to protect them,” Mayor Bloomberg said.

He added, “Given the heightened response against terrorism, and clearly in this case a terrorist rodent who could very well have been trained by Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, I’m not at liberty to say any more than that.”

New Yorkers, and animal lovers of the world, have no reason to worry. Chuck G. Hogg, as the groundhog is formally known, is a healthy rodent, so he won’t have to be sacrificed — and the mayor won’t have to take a rabies shot. The wound, inflicted on Mr. Bloomberg’s index finger, just needed to be cleaned and covered with a Band-Aid.

The animal attack — captured on video by The Staten Island Advance — happened around 7:30 a.m. during the annual Groundhog Day ceremony at the Staten Island Zoo. There were no other injuries and, as the mayor indicated during an unrelated announcement at City Hall later in the day, no arrests.

“If the district attorney wants to press charges, I’ll leave it to the district attorney in Staten Island to do so,” Mayor Bloomberg said. “But we can rest assured that we have enough police officers on Staten Island — we’re building a new precinct there — just to make sure we can always respond.”

Mary Lee Montalvo, a spokeswoman for the Staten Island Zoo, said that Chuck did not have a history of aggressive behavior and was regularly taken by zoo employees on visits with students and school groups. She said:

He’s a wild animal. He may be as domesticated as a groundhog can be, in that he goes home with a keeper on occasion and he’s around humans quite a bit, more so than most zoo animals are, with the exception of animals in the petting area. But he is a wild animal. There’s always that risk with a wild animal.

Chuck was born on a farm three years ago and is from the same “family” that included the first Chuck unveiled at the Staten Island Zoo in 1981, Ms. Montalvo said. She said the current Chuck, at age 3, is fully grown, but she noted that groundhogs’ teeth continue to grow throughout life. Ms. Montalvo explained Chuck’s behavior this way:

He was probably nervous. There was a lot of activity outside, and he was probably nervous. He was basically concentrating on his food. The mayor’s fingers may have just been there. He wasn’t necessarily going for the mayor.

Whew!

What a weekend. It started early Sat. morning. I rode over to San Diego Harley to finally get my highway pegs put on. (A Christmas gift from the MAXman!) I ordered them over two weeks ago, so I was extremely happy to hear they were in. While waiting, I caught up with some of the folks there and before I knew it, they were on my beloved Cleopatra. The pegs are black, but the mounts are chrome. The chrome looks good with the spokes, but I may end up coated them black. Ah decisions..

Monetta met me up there and we cruised over to Ramona. Nice ride, but getting windy so we stopped for lunch and headed back. It was really picking up by mid afternoon.

I put Cleopatra in her place in the garage and called it a day.

Now here comes the really good stuff - Got up early again on Sunday and met KT and company at the Easy Rider Bike Show in Pomona. I left later than I wanted to but zipped up there in less than 2 hours. Well, the wind at this point was so bad that my semi full face helmet (that's usually a little tight)was almost flying off my head. My bike was shifting a little but I managed to kept her in line.

When I got there I called KT and we met up inside the show. Some of the bikes were outrageous and some to me were total showpieces! It's amazing how inventive some builders get. Let's just say the "Barbie Bike", with a compartment for a hairbrush and make-up was right up my ally. My camera screwed up so my pictures did not come out so great, but I'll post anyway in "part 2" of this blog. I'm sure KT will have some on hers. Jasmine Cain was the entertainment and she was ass-kickin'! I never heard her band before and I'm now a fan! The delivery of her voice is amazing. I also saw Betsy Hueslkamp again, looking beautiful, and met CC, who as you know from KT's blog, is recovering from cancer. She is one of the most amazing women who has such a great outlook on life. She's very admirable. KT, again, introduced me to some very cool folks, who treated me like an old friend.

We grabbed a quickie meal (thank you KT for fries and soda!) and we all took off for home.

The wind wasn't as ferocious as getting there and I made it home in a little over an hour. When I got home, my precious MAX had dinner waiting for me and my baby Paulie was so excited, his welcome nearly knocked me over!

All in all, it was a great weekend with friends, bikes and good spirits! I will share photos once I download - later at home.

Love to all,
Mimi

Back in DAGO

I'm back in San Diego after a whirlwind of a trip to NYC. It was non stop action. The shoot went pretty well considering the rain and cold weather. I not only learned alot, but met some interesting people. Long cold days, just as I expected, but I loved every minute of it! I also have a audition tomorrow in LA for a big fashion/beauty show coming up in February. Wish me luck! Between the shoot, visiting my sister, and my mom, I actually got to go to Brooklyn Harley. That's the one thing I was determined to do. As it turns out, in typical Brooklyn fashion, there must have been 5-10 detours due to construction just to get to the friggin place. But it was worth it! I got my BH t-shirt.

Wow - NYC really has changed alot since I was last there. It seemed like there were many more people in the street and on the road. More construction and more expensive specialty shops. There were also the die-hard crazies roaming around. As well as some die-hard crazy bikers as well, riding like the wind in 30 degree temps. Yikes! I got stiff just looking at them.

I'm so glad to be back. I'll always be a Brooklyn-ite, but San Diego is now my home. Especially in winter. Can't wait to ride this weekend!

Love to all.

Off to NYC!

I'll be on a little hiatus for a while. I recently got a make-up job in NYC for the next week and a half. It's one of my favorite Harley places and an old stomping ground. The owner is real cool and a good friend. Pictures to follow.

I hope you all have a great week and love to you all!

xoxo

A Forwarded Message for Thanksgiving

This is one of those Fw:Fw:Fw: messages that I usually don't pass on or most of the time even read. But this one caught my eye, especially for Thanksgiving, and I thought I'd share it.

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.' What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.
The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling… And even more beautiful is, knowing that you are the reason behind it!!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

xo

Ride for the Homeless and meeting KT DID!!!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_lIeYh0cEER4/SSXJYbrPGLI/AAAAAAAAAFk/BZ06DUV9I40/s200/IMG_0378+Me+G+B" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270840360490178738" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_lIeYh0cEER4/SSXAFH5k5vI/AAAAAAAAAE0/vi8dxCLuVDw/s200/IMG-MEKT" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270830133159454450" />

Wow! What a great ride this past Sunday. I was finally able to download my pics. (Computer problems here). Not only did I meet our fellow blogger KT DID, who is awesome to say the least, she was also so gracious as to introduce me to all her friends. Including Gavin Fax and Betsy Hueslkamp, two of the most beautiful people you could imagine. I so admire their free spirits and positive energy. KT and her crew put on a great benefit for the homeless.

I started my ride from San Diego up to Cooks Corner, a popular biker bar/restaurant, in Orange County. I've always heard of Cooks, but was never there. Great hangout! From there all bikes went to Santa Ana to another bar/restaurant called Original Mikes. Food, music and company were great! It was a decent turnout considering these So. Cal fires were looming in the background. I hope to see alot of these people at the next toy run on 12/14. Here's some more pics. I'm not much of a photographer, but hope you all enjoy!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_lIeYh0cEER4/SSXF1F-i6wI/AAAAAAAAAFE/hMIZ0b2KXEA/s200/IMG+Cooks+Corner" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270836454835284738" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_lIeYh0cEER4/SSXHS4ItHWI/AAAAAAAAAFU/D_USXucyws4/s200/IMG+Hog+Wash" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5270838066027502946" />

I'm having trouble downloading again, so I'll post more later.

Peace~

Mimi

Happy Halloween!

I wanted to share my first sight of the day this morning. Chief Executive Jim Ziemer said the global economy and consumer concerns are expected to hobble the company into 2009.

''While we can't control the external forces at work in the economy and credit markets, or other underlying causes, Harley-Davidson is extremely focused on appropriately managing the many aspects of the business,'' Ziemer said in a conference call with analysts Thursday morning.

Harley said its earnings for the quarter ended Sept. 28 dropped 37 percent to $166.5 million, or 71 cents per share, from $265 million, or $1.07 per share, in the same quarter last year. It was the company's fifth straight decline in quarterly earnings.

Revenue fell 8 percent to $1.42 billion from $1.54 billion in the third quarter of 2007.

Excluding Harley's acquisition of Italian sports bike maker MV Agusta Group, the company earned 78 cents per share, Goldman Sachs analyst Patrick Archambault said.

On that basis, analysts expected a profit of 79 cents per share on revenue of $1.42 billion, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

Harley also reported lower shipments of its widely recognizable bikes. They fell 14 percent to 75,704, though international shipments crept higher in a sign the company is still making inroads into overseas markets.

Ziemer said a third Harley dealer opened its doors earlier this month in mainland China, and the company continues to explore ways to expand into the Indian market.

However, Ziemer said sales have slowed more than expected in some markets such as Switzerland and Italy -- an indication the global slowdown is starting to impact Harley's performance overseas.

''We think Europe is trending in the negative range at this point, yet our contacts mentioned European inventory levels have been increasing throughout (the third quarter),'' Citi Investment Research analyst Gregory Badishkanian said in a note to investors Thursday. Badishkanian has a ''Sell'' recommendation on Harley shares.

These have been difficult times for Harley, whose sales of its high-end bikes are closely tied to consumer confidence, and it has not proven immune to the tightening of the credit markets. Retail sales at Harley dealers fell 10 percent during the quarter, the company reported.

Ziemer sought to reassure investors that credit is still available for customers despite a global squeeze. Harley-Davidson Financial Services, which helps customers finance motorcycle purchases, is in ''stable'' shape, he said.

''Prudent management and customer access to credit will continue to be priorities at HDFS,'' Ziemer said in a statement.

However, the company reported higher delinquency rates during the quarter and said it has been forced to raise interest rates. HDFS President Saiyid Naqvi said rates now range between 7 percent for the most qualified customers to 22 percent for the least qualified, with even higher rates at some dealers. That's about a percentage point higher on each end than a year ago, the company said.

Harley has sought to counter the tough market at home with a broad push to boost its presence overseas. Its purchase of the privately held Agusta Group closed Aug. 8 for 68.3 million euros ($105.1 million), including 47.5 million euros ($73.2 million) in debt. The company said it took an $87.9 million goodwill charge and a $16.6 million one-time expense related to the acquisition in the quarter.

As of Sept. 28, Harley said it had cash and marketable securities totaling $504.9 million.

The company narrowed its expectations for both motorcycle shipments and earnings for the remainder of the year. It now expects to earn between $3 and $3.10 per share for the year. It previously expected $3 to $3.18 per share. Analysts expected $3.14 per share.

The company said it now expects to ship between 303,500 and 306,000 units, in an effort to prevent dealers from being saddled with more bikes than they can sell. Previously, Harley expected to ship between 303,500 and 307,500 units.

Reducing shipments is a core way for Harley to protect its brand and reduce costs for its dealers, Ziemer said.

''At the end of the day what we're trying to do is guard the brand,'' Ziemer told analysts.

Shares of Harley wobbled in morning trading but rose $1.08 cents, or 4.4 percent, to $25.61 by Thursday afternoon. The stock is down 47 percent for the year.

Peace friends.

Love Ride '08

Yes! I'm going to the LOVE Ride on 10/26. I've never been to this but have always read about it. It's gonna cost me, but I don't give a dam. I'll manage. I would love to stay over on Sat and get a fresh start on Sunday, but I may just go up early Sunday morning.

Check in is at Glendale Harley, for breakfast, bands, and a welcoming ceremony with all kinds of celebs. What a great weekend I had. I finally had a Saturday off. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm and the riding was perfecto as well. Monetta, my riding buddy and I, headed out early Saturday morning through some beautiful roads up towards the mountains. We passed one area where all I could smell was the leaves. It brought me back to when I was a little kid and my dad would rake up the leaves that fell from the one tree we had. My sister and I would jump in the pile before he could get them all together. I could never tell if he was laughing inside or cursing us out. Sometimes he had this real poker face. Anyway, that scent just brought me right back.

I love it when you could just hear your bike against the trees along the road. Birds flying in and around and it really is just you and the road.

As we got further along we decided to stop at this adorable diner like place called Le Peep. They had pictures and animation of all kinds of chickens. I figured their specialty was eggs, hence the name Le Peep. They must have had every combination of omelettes and eggs going. Monetta had an egg white special, with peppers, spinich, brocolli and what ever else they threw in. I had a gooey swiss cheese omelette that was heaven on earth. We also split this cinnamon bun thing with creme cheese icing and syrup. Yum! Now that's what I call a breakfast.

After we devoured everything, we headed out. We rode back through some mist and a peering sun. It was so hot when we rode up, so the mist really felt cool on my face.

I really do have to get a camera because all I was thinking of was how everyone should see these breathtaking views.

For the next couple of hours we just rode. I followed Monetta since she knows the back roads alot better than me. When we stopped for gas, we decided to go down to San Diego Harley for their weekly band and barbecue. There's always a good crowd there and people to meet or catch up with. I love that camaraderie that we all share.

Well, I hope you all had a great weekend and have a fun week! Get out and enjoy!

Peace, my riding friends~

John McCain at Sturgis

This was posted on TMZ (the celebrity site!) With gas prices sky high, the economy in a rut, etc. this is still the greatest country on earth. No where else can I, as a woman, have the opportunities I have. My grandparents really knew what they were doing when they came here. I will always treasure them.

I'll never forget when I was in England, 15 or so years ago and I was walking down the street eating an ice cream cone. People were staring crazy at me, later to find out there was some stupid law that permitted such behavior. Silly, right? But of course everyone smoked everywhere and that was OK. That, plus the food, yikes! I was so happy to get home. I guess once you've been out of the country, you realize what you have when you don't have it, even if it's an ice cream cone outside.

Well, have a great 4th, enjoy your freedom and stay safe, friends!

God Bless AMERICA!!!

Sassafras in the Wallet

OK, desperate times call for desperate measures. Right? I've been working two jobs, sometimes three, and at this pace, not much time for riding. How is it that I can barely make ends meet. I don't buy anything but food, and my meager necessities. I make sure my bills are paid on time. There's nothing to save and I usually think twice about buying a magazine or worse a new lipstick! But I get a bunch of that stuff while working.

I started reading about spells, Wicca, a religion, well, Witchcraft.

Here's the deal. Supposedly if you put some sassafras herb in your wallet or purse and you will have continuous money. You won't win the lotto, but you won't be broke either. I started this last week and have been on a roll.

As I started paying my bills this morning, I either noticed 0.00 in the "amt. due" or not as much as I thought I owed. In the past couple of days, I found, yes found a $20.00 bill on the street. And then I won the $75.00 raffle at the recent ABATE meeting. Then, the coup de gras my stimulus check arrived in my account today!

Coincidence? I don't know. I just felt like sharing this one :)

'Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.' Thomas said to him, 'Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?' Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. It fits her like a glove and it's her first REAL bike. By that I mean she grew up riding dirt bikes with her brother, but never had a cruising bike. Every time I looked over at her she had this wide grin on her face, like I HAVE ARRIVED, this is it! We must have hit every road in San Diego and beyond! The weather was dry and hot. No jackets required. We made a few pit stops, first was The Roadhouse. Biker bar and restaurant well know to the locals. I had my usual greasy fries and a diet coke, while Monetta, very health oriented had her salad (dressing on the side) and water. I usually try to eat pretty well, but hey, I don't drink or do drugs so, whatever...

On our way we rode through some very winding roads and tight turns. But we took it slow. One thing I've learned is to know your limitations. I've seen some folks fly through such roads and I've got to wonder. Oh well, I guess they know what they're doing. I'm just glad I'm not on the back.

When we got closer to civilization, we stopped at another shack of a place. There was really no name to it but we saw bikes out front. We stopped in for a quickie diet coke and left. We were the only females in the joint. So, we decided to ride down to the beach and feel some cooler air. We hung out there a while and just people watched. Kids really are a blast. They're so uninhibited.

Well, the day was coming to a close and we both had to get back home. This day had everything I love. Feeling wild and moving with the curves.

I'm so glad Monetta got herself a bike. It's gonna be a great summer!

Ride safe friends~

xo

Grace. Why can't it always be like this?

I love that word. I'm so fulled with grace today and am so thankful. I just took a long ride on this foggy, damp California morning. They call it June gloom. But not for me.

I stayed off the highways during this rush hour, except for a few northern roads that all seem to head toward LA. You just gotta side ride that LA crowd. It's crazy. I discovered this great coffee shop called Cafe de Lune, or something like that. Great vanilla lattes (my favorite!) I really didn't need that extra shot this morning, but what the hell, Cleopatra gave that look from the curb, like let's get going lady, you DO need it. Off we went.

Then the drizzle came. Not too bad, but I don't wear a full face helmet, so I'm sure you know what that's all about. The faster you go, the harder it feels.

Anyway, I'm home now. I hope it stays cloudy. I have to protect my own feelings, something that has not been respected. I try not to put myself in this position, reaching out, but that's my nature. Maybe I take too many people at face value.

Why do people do this? They create their own make believe world where they are so self righteous and self centered. It was the whole death thing. Why, where, what's going on? Watching my poor Fuzzy. Why can't he stay forever. I have such a hard time with losing someone.

These days it seems we live longer but die slower. I got to think about all the people I've known and how there not here anymore. I mean, why leave the body? Is it like putting away the winter stuff, not needing it anymore? Why don't we last forever? Our bodies - born to grow, but then we regress back into a helpless infant.

How is it that the one event we know with absolute certainty will occur is still one we dance around? Most of us have a pretty good idea about how we want to die: at home, at peace, quickly, with family, without pain. And at a ripe old age.

I still look at death as not being pretty. My generation is now into its middle ages. I also found out a couple of weeks ago that my high school bully just passed on. I've forgotten alot about her disposition, but I still remember certain things. Like for some reason, when I want to re-act to someone who’s been hateful, I kind of turn into her. I wonder if she knew she had that effect. But I refuse to give her the benefit. That's my prerogative.

I cried last night for my Fuzz. I’m crying as I write this. Let Fuzzy go lightly at home, at peace, quickly, with family, without pain. And at a ripe old age.

I love you my little FuzzWuzz.

Elevation, Appreciation

What a super deluxe weekend I'm still having! Well, technically, I'm back at work, but my spirit is still so elevated.

My ride up to Malibu was one of the best rides I've had in a while. The weather was HOT. I think everyone that has a bike was out riding. The air was so warm and silky against me. I love it when I can wear just a t-shirt and no jacket. Just a 50 SPF on my tats! I met up with some good old friends and some new. I really don't have much of a "blood" family left, (just my best friend sista!) but my bika friends make me feel at home. I guess I don't have to explain it, ya know?

Cleopatra seemed to know where to go most of the day. It was kinda strange, but I was feeling so serene, that it just felt like she was leading the way. I mean, I was in control, but... she - well, she really is like her name at times.

I even got a make-up artist job this coming Sunday through someone I met a while back. She is a fellow rider and hairstylist extraordinaire! I am so thankful for this opportunity. It's for a homeless and battered women's shelter. We're helping them get "made-up" and ready to go out and get a job. Make-up, hair, wardrobe, resume building, and a photography session is in store for these brave women ready to make a huge step in their lives. They're the real heroes. It's so easy to get lost in this broken world we live in. I know I will give each and everyone I meet a big hug! And hope they feel good about their new look.

Well my lovies, I hope you're having a fantastic day and hugs to you all!

Peace.

LA Tomorrow

Yes! I don't know if I can deal with this. Fuzzy has been with me the past 17 years. He's been through all my ups and downs; all the apartments, my emotions, travels, driving cross country with me, oh, and all the boyfriends. When Fuzzy didn't like a guy, he let me know. He'd just stare at him, then hiss. He has this look of total frustration and disgust sometimes. I call it the look of death. He even was there when I got my first motorcycle! When he first saw the bike, he hung with me in the garage, sniffing, prodding and sniffing some more. Then going back inside. I guess it got his approval.

My Fuzzy always sleeps right next to me, under my chin. I feel his breath on my shoulder and his warm little body. At times he moves up on top of my head and licks my hair. Lately, though, he's so tired and old, he can't even jump on the bed, even with the stool I put there.

The last day or so has been so difficult for him. He has trouble moving his back legs and literally just drags himself. I feed him in my lap, because he can't stand up long enough in front of his bowl. I feel his pain.

This is so sad. Some folks would say to put him down, but I have a hard time comprehending euthanization.

For now, I feel his little breath against me until Jesus takes him. I just want to embrace him.

Peace and Love to all.

A New Risk of Middle-Age: Dying on a Motorcycle

Check out this article in the NY Times.

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/10/a-new-risk-of-middle-age-dying-on-a-
motorcycle/index.html?hp

Back on the Road!

Yes! Everythings cool with my health and I just got back from a much needed ride with Cleopatra. It was brisk and cloudy out, but I put my Fox Creek Leather jacket on with the lining(amazing craft of leather) and gloves and hopped on. We rode to nowhere. Cleared all the dust and cobwebs. I also wore my new attachable purse that hooks on the belt hoops on my jeans. I used to carry a mini back pack purse, but that was becoming a pain. FREEDOM! No weight, just flying. I had a couple of dollars on me so I stopped for a vanilla latte, my favorite, and headed back out. San Diego is so beautiful, even when it's overcast.

Well, here I am home, with the fire on, Cleopatra in the garage. I'm in no kind of pain, but when the dizziness hits, I just want to hold on to the nearest solid object. And then there's the nausea that follows. That's always fun.

My doctor says if the dizzy spells get further and further apart, which they are, this will go away soon. The sun wrapped it's rays around me and kept me warm, no matter how fast I was riding. The beautiful breeze felt like I was wearing silk. I only had to wear a t-shirt, no leathers. I ended up going to a barbecue at someone's house I really didn't know, but hey, we all ride and know each other in spirit, right? A friend of a friend of a friend. It's cool.

I did so much thinking while riding this weekend of where my life is going and how everything is changing. It's so weird when things finally happen that you've been working on and dreaming about. Have I arrived too soon? too late? or not at all? I guess I'll always have that drive to go, to continue, to evolve and involve my self.

I was thinking about Jesus. Good Friday, Easter. Mary Magdelene. How she thought someone stole Jesus' body from the tomb, after she saw him die. Upon seeing him, she grabbed onto his feet, to not go, don't leave again. I don't think she wanted that moment to go away. I know how she felt. I wish I could meet her. There are so many moments I want to keep precious. People, places or situations that will never happen again. It's all part of our own history. Our own world. We create it!

Well my lovies - I'm ranting again! Los Angeles is a great city. I know some cringe at the thought, but I love the play between the fantasy and the reality. You get these different worlds here and it makes for an interesting mix. I'm now in the business of making people look good, feel good. Make them look their best with my own craft of makeup. In front and outside of the camera. Two dimensional and three dimensional. Quite a mix in itself. I have learned so much of this business in the last 3 weeks; I'm pretty much ready for anything.

Now, if I could only fit all my makeup "stuff" in my saddlebags and ride to location. The ancient Greeks and Romans called it the “Clay Sea”, due to the patches of clay, or asphalt floating on its surface. Later on, since life in this body of water was deemed impossible, it was dubbed the “Dead Sea”.

The water’s tranquility, makes floating natural and effortless and instills a sense of peace. The natural healing waters along the coast are rich in minerals and natural heat. They are the ideal foundation for health.

I can't help but wonder what a great escape this must be.

Escapism. An alternative reality. A diversion that removes one from everyday rigors. This is why I ride. It's my diversion. It's also my reality.

I believe we all need to escape, some of us more than others. Or maybe it's this need to be our true selves, belonging to oneself, to live our own reality and be who we really are. For some, that's the real escape.

Peace.

Mimi

My Own Personal Road-mance

It's Friday, and the weekend weather is looking beautiful for a little road-mance. I'm certainly in love with a new adventure on the road. First I'll shine up Cleopatra, fill up the tank and take off where ever the road takes me. I may even go down to the beach and see what's kicking. There's also a weekly barbecue for riders at San Diego Harley. That's usually a good pit stop.

However, now, I'm sitting here at work, staring out the window. Rooftops, cars, birds and people, all in my view. Downtown San Diego is like a mini city. Kind of urban, but still has a way to go. My view reaches past the buildings to the water. Occasionally, a sailboat drifts by. Borrowed time, when a song brings you to a certain place that you are gone, but then again know where you are. A poem, a psalm. When someone phrases something so beautifully that your whole perspective on that topic changes.

I've been trying to find out some of my ancestry, before my Grand pa-pa came here from Italy. By the way, everyone from my Grandparents and before is from or is still in Italy. My Grandma, America, who I was named after, came here when she was only 16. All alone on a grueling boat, without knowing how to read or write. I received in the mail, pictures of the two boats my Grand pa-pa and my Grandma America came over on. I also received "the sign in sheets" before boarding the boat. I saw my Grand pa-pa's signature at 16 years old and then my Grandma America's signature. This is when I cryed. Since my Grandma didn't know how to read or write and you had to make a mark that you were entering, she put an X. Her name wasn't America at the time. She changed it when she got here. The rest is history. I am so proud of my heritage and how brave my Grandparents were to come to another country, learn the language and raise children. They loved this country and let everyone know. They're gone now, but I know I have that spirit they did. To get out and do what you need to do to make life better. To try new things.

The truth is, I never would have the opportunities I have if it weren't for them. I have a job, I can pay, well most of my bills, a car and my beloved bike. I don't think I would have this lifestyle and choices if I were in the part of Italy they were from.

It's so important to never forget where you're from. The next generation in my family will probably hear about their crazy aunt or cousin Mimi with her adventures in riding. I can only hope I influence one of these siblings to carry on this adventurous spirit.

Peace ~ Mimi

Happy Birthday! This weekend was warm and perfect for riding. Just needed a sweatshirt really. Cleopatra and I rode the highways, backroads, then joined another couple of riders back to the main drag. It seemed everyone who owns a bike here was out riding yesterday and today.

Today I rode down to the beach. There's a local bar there where lots of bikes are usually parked out front. It's always great to see familiar faces, watch the game (we won!) and catch up. I don't drink, but this beach bar is a great place to hang and see what's going on in the bike community. The music is good and the sodas are cheap.

As I rode back home, I could see the sun starting to set in my rearview mirror, all orange and red. The blue sky was getting deeper. This earth is so beautiful. Sometimes I'll wish I was around in another time, when most of the planet wasn't so industrialized. But being a woman, way back when, I wouldn't have this great opportunity to feel this wind on my face, on my own bike, being my wandering self and coming and going as I please. These are good days.

Rod Custom and M/C Show

If you happen to be in the San Francisco area 1/11-1/13, you've got to check out the rod custom and m/c show at the Cow Palace. Can't ride, no cruising. I've watched all the movies I've recorded and finished a great book - The Namesake. If you haven't read the book or seen the movie (which I hear is just as good as the read) I highly suggest it.

So after awhile of putzing around, I went to see a good friend of mine who I've known for quite some time. She is a brilliant make up artist and graduated from the same school I will be attending soon. Wow! What an inspiration. We talked about so many things and I'm more excited than ever to get my career up and running. I can't wait to achieve these upcoming goals, but more important I look so forward to experiencing each day and learning my own style of creativity. Each day I'll be feeding my soul, doing something I truly love. I think the most satisfying thing is being true. The truth is where it's at. Getting grounded with yourself. Being who YOU are. Anything else is a lie.

The truth is always there for you. A time to let it happen, to make those dreams come true. This time of year, where ever you are, its usually cold, damp, and the days are short. This is also a perfect time to cozy up and think about what's really important for yourself. Sometimes after all the holiday hoopla it can be a downer, but the new year can bring hope and new goals. So, it may not be a great time to ride and be outdoors, but oh what those deep thoughts and ideas could bring. Do for yourself this year!

Peace my friends.

Darkness

Somehow within all the holiday cheer, I find myself in a dark place. I all of a sudden feel like I'm back in a corner with no way out. I'm lonely, and sad for no apparent reason. Can it be, once again? There's a spirit in me that usually gets me out of such a place, but that entity is slowly disapearing. I've gone so far. I feel like I'm wasting knowledge and with that I know I'm in trouble. I think that's the big problem. I'd like to take a ride, but evening is soon here and I don't really like riding at night unless I have to. Southern Cal is where I feel most at home. I do miss Brooklyn and all the urban-ness, but where else can you go riding in December? All weekend I rode through the east county, back along roads that remind me of upstate NY. Horses peering out from bare branches behind fences they could easily jump over. They looked so serene. I also made my way through areas that were burnt, black and still smelled of the devastating fire we had here.

As I made my way back to the highway, I decided to head to stop and do some Christmas shopping. I figured I got the saddlebags on, why not? Putt through traffic and head over to the moto parking area. Most malls, shopping centers have special places for us biker gals who like to shop!

Yes, I'm a lucky gal to be living in San Diego.

Paulie Walnuts

Paulie is my 10 year old chihuahua mutt mix. I'm usually a very shy, quiet person, never wanting to be noticed, but ever since I got my bike, alot of that has changed. Facing that feeling was a scary thing. I've been afraid all my life, but even more so when I got my bike. The fear was overwhelming, but I knew this is what I wanted and had worked so hard for this. I went through a few embarrassing moments in the beginning, but at this point I feel I have triumphed over such a fear and am not so shy or afraid anymore. This is a fear I have dealt with my whole life. My bike, Cleopatra (a Harley 1200 Nightster), is a Godsend. She is my salvation. Not only has she brought me out of my shell, but also I have met many people who actually respect me for riding and having my own bike. That feeling is tremendous to me. I never had any kind of validation before. The absolute best feeling is taking off on Cleopatra and going anywhere I want. The freedom is beyond words.

Harley Ad in American Iron

I stopped in a drug store on my walk to work this morning to pick up much needed chocolate for my afternoon fix. I also picked up American Iron to read Genevieve Schmitt's column. She's a woman I admire and I love what she's doing for women who ride. As I was turning the pages, I couldn't help but notice an advertisement for a Harley Halter, worn by a great looking model. It reads 'Give new meaning to "deer in headlights."' The copy underneath says "The gift that stops every man in his tracks." I mean, come on. This is sexism if I ever saw it. I know the biker lifestyle is very sexist, but this is degrading to women whether they are in the lifestyle or not. I'm surprised Harley would put out an ad like this. These days it seems like they're catering to women who are serious about riding and purchasing a bike, not being an ornament.

Don't get me wrong, I love wearing leather and feeling sexy. But for myself. There's a difference.

MUD

Make Up Designory. I'm finally going. I've said eff it to most everything in my comfort zone. I am attending the Harvard of make up schools - MUD. I don't start until Feb. 08, but just enough time to save some much needed dough. LA-WOW! I get to be in LA everyday with all its craziness. I love it! Being from NYC and now living in San Diego, I miss the feeling of a real city. One thing I'm especially excited about is learning prosthetics. Creating creatures. Really rockin my own imagination. Getting that satisfaction of accomplishing and creating. I can't remember the last time I worked at something for myself. I guess I'm still going for that dream thing.

Riding has helped so much in this decision. Focus, do it, don't hold back.
